Forestville cancelling Memorial Day activities

Another area Memorial Day ceremony has been canceled. Friday, the J. Carter Knapp Forestville American Legion Memorial Day parade and ceremony at Legion grounds has been canceled. On Tuesday, the city of Dunkirk made the same decision with its parade.

Services for the city may be done electronically and on the public access channel on the holiday.

Blessed Mary Angela to host drive-through BBQ

Reverend Jan Trela, the staff and parishioners of Blessed Mary Angela R.C. Parish are praying that everyone is safe during these very trying times. Blessed Mary Angela Parish will be hosting a drive-through chicken barbecue on Wednesday, May 27 at the Parish Social Center, 324 Townsend St. in Dunkirk from 4 to 6 p.m. In order to keep everyone safe, this will be a drive-through only dinner.

The church will be serving Weidner’s chicken barbecue, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn and a roll with butter. The cost will remain at $10 in an effort to make this as affordable as possible. All proceeds will be used to help the Parish recover in these difficult financial times.

There will only be 500 dinner tickets available, and pre-sale tickets can be purchased at Big Rick’s One Stop on Lake Shore Drive East starting on Monday. Call Tony at 467-0891 with questions.

Chicken BBQ orders due Tuesday

Gowanda Assembly of God is facilitating a to-go chicken BBQ fundraiser to benefit Gowanda Central School District on Friday, May 15, from 3-7 p.m. at the church at 78 Allen St. All proceeds will go to GCSD for the purchase of personal protective equipment.

The meal will be prepared by JJ’s Backyard BBQ and incudes chicken, baked beans, and salt potatoes for $10/meal.

The church’s front horseshoe driveway will serve as a drive-thru. The organizers hope the meals sell out prior to May 15 in order to make the event totally zero-contact. There is a system in place to identify customers so the pick-up runs smoothly.
