Gillibrand cancels appearance

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was originally scheduled to be in Dunkirk Monday but ended up canceling due to the weather. Gillibrand was expected to be at the Boardwalk Market to call for legislation to support small- and mid-sized businesses that are struggling to recover after a summer of limited operations due to the coronavirus crisis. The bipartisan Reviving the Economy Sustainably Towards a Recovery in Twenty-Twenty (RESTART) Act would create a new loan program to fund six months of employer and operating expenses for businesses that have lost substantial revenue and have been unable to access a lifeline through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

Forestville sells out annual pork dinners

Forestville’s St. Rose Society’s annual pork dinner sold out in 90 minutes Saturday. Society members said they regret having to turn customers away. “With so many people ordering takeout during COVID-19 lockdowns, we should have doubled our output,” said Carmen Wappman, event coordinator. “We apologize to disappointed customers but are happy to have pleased so many others and raised record money for the charities we hold dear.” The dinner is held every fall at the St. Rose of Lima church hall in Forestville.
