Barbecue planned for June 18

The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold a drive-through, pick-up Weidner’s chicken barbecue Saturday, June 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lakeshore Humane Society Adoption Center, 431 E. Chestnut St. in Dunkirk.

The dinner includes a half chicken, potatoes, cole slaw, and roll. Tickets are $13. Purchase your pre-sale tickets by June 10 during LHS Adoption Center Open Hours, Wednesdays 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays noon to 3 p.m., or online at lakeshorehumanesociety.org. (Presale ticket purchase is strongly encouraged; a very limited number of tickets might be available the day of the dinner, but cannot be assured.)

Healing Mass set for Wednesday in city

A Healing Mass sponsored by the Charismatic Renewal of the Diocese of Buffalo will take place on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 1032 Central Ave., Dunkirk. The celebrant will be Fr. Richard DiGiulio. All are welcome!

Remembering The Grand:

A special exhibit honoring Westfield’s Grand Theater, will be open from June 30 to August 6 at the Lakeshore Center for the Arts. Those who have theater artifacts from the 1993 auction can call Pat Locke at 716-386-2107.

The Sons of American Legion Squad 59

Monthly meeting at 7 p.m. today at Post 59, 156 E. Main St., Fredonia.

Committee nominations for fiscal 2022-23 will be voted on. Positions include: Commander Rodney Dziduch, 1st Vice Commander Douglas McPherson, Vice Commander David “Duper” Winchell Jr., Adjutant, Dave Schanzlin, Finance Manager Larry Fiorella, Historian Tom Muldowney, Chaplain David Dengler and Sgt at Arms, Rick Holly. Anyone interested in pursuing a nomination, please attend this meeting.

Plans will be finalized for a late spring fundraiser, which will be a meat bingo and raffle on June 18 at Post 59 with Dziduch calling the numbers with his usual charm and entertainment.

A family picnic will be on Aug. 13 at Russell Joy Park and will be chaired by Rick Holly. All SAL are encouraged to attend the meetings which are held on the fourth Tuesday of every month.
