Steamship

disasters focus of talk

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Historical Society will present a talk by Silver Creek Village Historian, Louis Pelletter, on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m. Pelletter will speak on Local Steamship Disasters of the 1800s, particularly the burning of the steamship George Washington and the steamship Erie in waters off our coast.

The Sheridan Historical Society building is located at Route 20 and Center Road. It will be open to the public for exploration of the exhibits prior to the speaker, from 4 to 6 p.m. Raffle tickets will be available for a drawing to be held on Election Day for chances to win a children’s quilt, a queen-size Christmas quilt, or a wine and cheese basket, to benefit the Historical Society.

There is no charge for the event.

League to focus on Complete Streets

The League of Women Voters will hold a brown bag luncheon at noon Thursday, Sept. 22. The event will be at the Presbyterian Church on 219 Central Ave., Fredonia. The subject will be Complete Streets with speaker Justin Booth.

Gowanda Moose sets Family Fun Day

GOWANDA — The Gowanda Loyal Order of Moose 1382, 201 Aldrich St., will hold a Family Fun Day and picnic on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs, pasta and baked beans will be provided. Bring a dish to pass.

There will be basket raffles, 50-50, games of chance and live music with Bob Steff and Friends. A cornhole tournament will be held with a $20 fee to be awarded as prizes and donation to District 2. Everyone is welcome.

Blood drive planned in Westfield

WESTFIELD — The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at Eason Hall, 23 Elm St. To donate blood, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 800-733-2767 or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
