Dinner canceled for Saturday

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Stuffed Shell Dinner, scheduled for Saturday has been canceled at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Dunkirk. The Dec. 20 dinner of meatloaf will still go on.

Legion Auxiliary county meeting is Thursday

FALCONER — The Chautauqua County American Legion Auxiliary Meeting will be hosted by Henry Mosher Unit 638 on Thursday, with dessert at 6:30 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. American Legion Auxiliary Eighth District President Sue Williams, and Vice President Suzanne Wesley, will be distinguished guests.

Brocton-Portland Seniors gather

BROCTON — Brocton-Portland Seniors met Oct. 28 at Tri Church Parish. The meeting was opened by President Margaret Jagoda for 61 members. Donald Carlson shared a Prayer of Thanks, held moment of silence, followed by Brian Stanton leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Committee members Denise Griffin, Bill Kubasik and Nancy Hayden, had tables decorated with Halloween gorgeous centerpieces and candy treats.

Secretary Ruth Neal report was read, approved by Linda Burton and Lynn DiPalma passed. Treasurer Barbara Crandall’s report read and approved by Anita Calcaterra and June Woollett passed.

Office Of Aging is holding three open houses — Nov. 17 in Mayville, Nov. 19 in Jamestown and Nov. 21 in Dunkirk at their new office on 51 E. Third Street from 10 a.m. to noon. Robin Carr has a trip Nov. 29 to Drake Well, a Santa Train Ride. The Christmas Bethlehem trip Dec 10 to 12 due now for sign up as well.

Halloween contest prize winners were Chip Winchell a blind line referee, Rita Bennett a cat, Bill Kubasik spaghetti with meat balls, and Nancy Hayden tomato sauce! Denise Griffin held a memory game that was tough! The election committee of Doug Chatley, Rose Brumagin, Linda Burton and Tom DeJoe met Oct. 20 and reported their list of nominees for the November election. Halloween table prizes made by Hayden, Griffin and Linda Riley, were awesome. The happy birthday song for October birthdays was sung for Edie Seekings, Lynn DiPalma, Chuck Cichon, Russ Plucinski, Judy Travis, Candy Philbrick, and Debbie Gillis.

The Nov. 25 meeting program will be Elder Law from OFA. Committee is Jean Jaquith, Edie Seekings, Sandy Terrill, Marilyn Flint, Patti Farrell, Debbie Gillis and Olive Becker. It will be a beef on weck catered meal. To reserve, call Olive Becker at 716-679-5125 for reservation or to cancel, by Nov. 18.

VFW plans Thanksgiving feast

SHERIDAN — Sheridan Memorial VFW Post 6390, 2556 Main Road, (Route 20 West) will host a Thanksgiving feast on Thursday, Nov. 27 from noon to 4 p.m. The menu includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce and desserts. The meal is free for veterans and their families. The event is also open to the public. Dinners for non-vets are $15. Call 716 672-6011 for reservations.

Church sets Christmas Festival

Fredonia Presbyterian Church’s annual Christmas Festival is back with more than 300 Nativities on display. In addition, there will be local and international arts and crafts, and live music. Free entry and refreshments. 219 Central Ave., on Friday Dec. 5, 3:30 to 6 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 6, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 7, noon to 1 p.m.

‘Picture Your Pet’ event is Dec. 7

The Lakeshore Humane Society’s “Picture Your Pet With Santa” fundraiser will be Sunday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lakeshore Humane Society Adoption Center, 431 E. Chestnut St. in Dunkirk. Pets, children, and/or family photos with Santa Claus will be taken by a photographer and available for purchase to benefit the Lakeshore Humane Society. The cost is $15 for one pose; $20 for three poses. The digital photo(s) will be sent via email. Cash, check, or credit card payments are accepted. Pets must be vaccinated, friendly, and on a leash or in a carrier. Multiple pets and children are welcome. (No sick, aggressive, or exotic animals).

Also, come shop at the “Cats Meow” boutique in the LHS Adoption Center lobby. It is a great source for gifts!
