A Portland man was taken to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo after suffering burns to his hands and arms when fire broke out at his home early this morning.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office has released more information on the blaze, reported at 8206 Campbell Road in the town of Portland around 1:40 a.m. Deputies say Timothy Coughlin, 53, managed to escape the property and was transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He was later moved to Buffalo.

The Sheriff’s Office said Coughlin was the lone occupant of the home, which was destroyed in the fire.

The county Fire Investigation Team is looking into the cause of the fire.
