BROCTON — A fire that destroyed a Main Street home in Brocton has been deemed accidental in nature.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office on Monday said investigators have completed their look into the Feb. 9 blaze at 60 E. Main St., reported after 8 p.m.

“Sheriff’s investigators conducted interviews of witnesses to the fire and it has been determined that the fire was of an accidental nature,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. “All witnesses placed the fire in the area of the furnace. This fire then started the floor on fire which then led to the house becoming fully involved.”

Crews from Brocton, Portland, Westfield, West Dunkirk, East Dunkirk, Stockton, county fire coordinators, county fire police and the county FAST team all responded to the scene.
