Fire at Maytum Hall is quickly extinguished
A fire in a wall space between two buildings with insulation burning at one of the north county’s tallest structures was handled quickly by Fredonia Fire Department on Wednesday.
Around 2:50 p.m., firefighters responded to an alarm at Maytum Hall, an eight-story building at the State University of New York at Fredonia. Engine 15 arrived on location found smoke in the building and called for a full assignment to respond.
Firefighters gained access through a joint between two cement wall panels. The fire was quickly extinguished and smoke cleared from the building.
The cause was determined to be hot tar that a roofing company was using to seal the roof, the hot tar seeped into the cracks and down into the wall space.
Engine 15, Engine 14, Tower 18, Heavy Rescue 11, Car 12, Car 13, Car 14 and University Police responded.
