Judge sets bail for Jamestown man charged in fatal accident

Randal Rolison

A judge set bail Wednesday morning for the Jamestown man charged in the hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl on New Year’s Eve.

Chautauqua County Court Judge David Foley set bail for Randal J. Rolison at $35,000 cash, $70,000 bond for the charges tied to the fatal crash and $50,000 cash, $100,000 bond for weapons possession charges announced this week and which are not tied to the Dec. 31 accident.

The 58-year-old Rolison is being represented by Ned Barone, Chautauqua County public defender, who said he expects the Jamestown resident to post bail and be released by Friday of this week.

The amounts were set by Foley during a bail hearing Wednesday morning in court.

Rolison is facing charges of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving a death and driving while ability impaired by drugs. He was operating a tractor-trailer hauling several vehicles the afternoon of Dec. 31 when he struck Alexis Catherine Hughan, who had been crossing West Sixth Street at the intersection of Washington Street in Jamestown. The car hauler, which continued on West Sixth Street after the accident, was eventually stopped in the parking lot of the Chautauqua Mall.

Hughan was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Monday, the Jamestown Police Department announced additional charges — three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon — after a search of a storage unit in Busti that Rolison reportedly rents turned up three unregistered handguns.
