Local Boy Scout Troop 267 upholds the Boy Scout Law

Boy Scouts of Troop 267 uphold the Boy Scout Law. A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. Recently, the Scouts participated in the 12th Annual Canadaway Creek Clean. The following Sunday, they held a Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue fundraiser and the next Monday was a Court of Honor. These are dedicated leaders, committee members, parents and Scouts.

The Court of Honor opened with Senior Patrol Leader John Banach leading the Flag Ceremony and the Pledge of Allegiance. Chaplain Walt Sedlmayer led the invocation. Welcoming everyone and thanking them for their dedication was Committee Chairman Vince Vecchio.

Scoutmaster Chris Eichmann handed out numerous merit badges to Calder Annear, Joseph Bowers, Matt Brown, Alex Field, Cortland Lehnen, Hunter Noody, Brandon Powell, Justin Powell, Garron Seddon, David Sheldon, JJ Tuggy, Sam Tuggy, Ledreth Velez-Olmo, Zack Walnicki, Ashton Witkowski and Jayden Yericho. Eagle Scout Corey Dawley earned the coveted “100 Days and Nights Camping” award and Chris Annear earned the National Outdoor Award for Camping.

Service stars, which are numbered gold star pins, are an outward symbol of how long someone has been involved in Scouts. It is a quick way for new Scouts and parents to see who has Scouting experience. At this Court of Honor, Garron Seddon was awarded a one-year service star and Rian Budzinski was awarded a three-year star. Six-year stars were given to Scouts Andrew Field and Brandon Powell. Corey Dawley achieved the seven-year service star. Honored adults were Adam Essek (one year) and Dennis Bouquin (seven years).

Banach closed the Court of Honor with the Retiring of the Colors and everyone was invited to enjoy ice cream sundaes in celebration. Troop 267 meets Mondays at 7 p.m. at Memorial Post 59, 156 E. Main St. in Fredonia, and is open to all boys who are at least 11 years of age or have completed the fifth grade. The Scouts maintain a website that can be found with a simple search, and can also be found on Facebook. Information about joining Scouting is also at beascout.scouting.org.
