JAMESTOWN — Mark your calendars for the Whirlybird Music & Arts Festival, to take place in the historic streets of downtown Jamestown this Saturday.

Whirlybird is a city wide, day-long community celebration with something for everyone. This year’s festival program will feature a multi-genre mix of local, regional and nationally touring musical acts complimented by pop-up galleries, live art exhibits, a comedy showcase, poetry, local food and merchants. All of the proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to Infinity Visual & Performing Arts, Jr. Guilders of Jamestown and YMCA Camp Onyahsa Scholarship Programs. Whirlybird Music & Arts Festival is truly an event for Jamestown, by Jamestown.

The festival will be organized in two blocks of time. The first, called Whirlybird: Sun is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for all ages, with the main entrance at Third and Pine Street in downtown Jamestown. There is no set admission fee, and they will collect a good will donation at the main entrance to cover festival costs, as well as donating the surplus to community organizations.

The recommended donation is a minimum $5 per person but no attendee or contribution will be turned away. Whirlybird: Sun will feature two outdoor stages and will feature 20 acts, including headliners The Tins from Buffalo, Qwister, Cold Lazarus, Brandon Bailey Johnson, Kates Brothers Band, Trip the Deuce and Kaleidoscope Sky. The festival will also have a street market hosted by Jamestown Public Market, a beer garden hosted by Reg Lenna, live art exhibits, wellness sessions, local food and beverage vendors, a comedy show, pop-up art galleries, a poetry slam competition and more. Whirlybird’s day program is family friendly. They will be collecting a good-will donation at the gate. The street market will have a wide range of artist booths, and artists will not only be displaying their art but also creating their art live during the fest, with artists specializing in airbrush, chainsaw wood carving, painting and more. Musical acts can also be seen during the day with two stages available, the main stage at Wood Park and the second stage at Second and Pine.

The second block of time, called Whirlybird: Moon, is from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., is for ages 21-plus and is $15 presale. As the sun sets, Whirlybird will move into Jamestown’s downtown live music venues such as Shawbucks, MoJos, Wine Cellar and The Chadakoin Club. Musical guests include headlining band Wild Adriatic as well as Lightworks, Bill Ward, DJ 8ON3, Witty Tarbox, Cypher, Galactic Duo, Slow Motion Breakdown, Gang Language, Feverhawk, Muttnik, Emily Hardtke, Mister Gavin, Adam McKillip and Aaron White. Music genres include Rock and Roll, Americana, Blues, Funk, Jam, Reggae, Roots, Dub Ska, Punk, Alternative, Progressive, Folk, Bluegrass, Country, Jazz Fusion, Surf, Indie, 80’s Rock, Pop, R&B, EDM, Drum & Bass, Nu Disco, Downtempo, House and Dubstep.

While the festival is sure to bring joy to all that attend, its purpose is much larger than that, explains Festival Director Miki Girts. He states, “Whirlybird was created not only to inspire and entertain the Jamestown community, but to help provide the means and opportunities for all the wonderful artists and organizations involved to advance and succeed. It’s remarkable to see all the hard work being done to bring fresh, creative energy into our city and a privilege to be a part of this growing positive movement.” Girts feels especially lucky to have his hand in bringing the event to fruition, sharing that he couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone involved.
