Service Learning grants available for teachers

Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation is now accepting Service Learning Mini-Grants Program applications for the 2019-20 school year. Local middle and high school teachers are encouraged to apply for projects that combine community service and classroom learning.

This school year, the foundation awarded 15 grants to six school districts totaling $6,978. Classrooms from all disciplines participate in this program: health, music, English, art, trades and much more. As an example, Dunkirk’s Marauder Robotics group took their robot Dillion 2.0 to the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County to demonstrate robotic building and skills.

Applications for the next round of grants are available on the NCCF website as well as the option to apply electronically at www.nccfoundation.org/service-learning. Complete the application and return to NCCF by March 31. The committee will review all applications and announce the awards in June 2019. Visit the website to learn more about this program. You may also call the office at 366-4892 or email nccf@nccfoundation.org.

The NCCF Applebee’s Flapjack Breakfast & Basket Raffle Fundraiser supports the Service Learning Program. We invite all neighbors in the northern Chautauqua community to join the board, staff and volunteers for this year’s event on Saturday, March 23. Last year the foundation raised $2,780 for the program. Tickets are $6 each and are available at our office at 212 Lake Shore Drive West in Dunkirk, or through our website www.nccfoundation.org/nccf-flapjack-fundraiser.

The NCCF, incorporated in 1986, is a tax-exempt charitable organization. Since its establishment, the NCCF has distributed more than $14 million in the community through its various grant programs. It is an organization inherently committed to enriching the northern Chautauqua community and encouraging local philanthropy. For more information on the NCCF, visit www.nccfoundation.org or call 366-4892.
