Chautauqua County Executive George Borrello gets lunch from the 3 C’s food truck.

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Executive’s Office has been working on a new initiative to offer additional choices for lunch by hosting local food trucks this summer. The initiative began last fall with a test-run day after 3 C’s Catering reached out to discuss possible opportunities for collaboration.

“I have been very focused on taking steps to improve employee morale since becoming County Executive,” said Chautauqua County Executive George Borrello. “Any given day there are 1,000 employees and visitors conducting business at our Mayville offices. Although we have high quality food options in Mayville, the limited number of establishments can make it difficult for everyone to get lunch within the short time they have. Offering this quick, once a week option helps employees enjoy a quick lunch, plus other benefits like meeting and conversing with their co-workers.”

The idea was expanded for the 2019 summer after feedback was collected from Borrello’s Citizens’ Advisory Committee. Since April 24, a locally-owned food truck operator has been featured every Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with plans to continue rotating food trucks weekly through August. The truck parks in the Peacock parking lot outside the main entrance of the Gerace Office Building, and is available for employees, visitors, and anyone in the Mayville area to purchase a quick lunch.

“I appreciate the opportunity to partner with the county, and was excited we could be the first truck to participate,” said Robert Cross, owner of 3C’s Catering. “The feedback we received is overwhelmingly positive and I enjoy the challenge of creating a unique menu of items that can be made and served quickly each time we visit. It has been a great opportunity to get our name out and grow our mobile business in the middle of the week, which is typically a slower day for the restaurant industry.”

Other food trucks to participate this spring include Kev’s Kitchen and Boom Boom Pow Roadside Chow, with others scheduled further into the summer.

Food truck operators in Chautauqua County are encouraged to contact the County Executive’s Office if they are interested in participating. Operations must be able to handle a large rush as the lunch hour begins, and wait time after an order is placed is requested to be no more than ten minutes.
