City of Dunkirk to observe Poppy Days

City of Dunkirk Mayor Wilfred Rosas has proclaimed the days of May 24, 25 and 26 in the city as “Dunkirk Memorial Unit No. 62 Poppy Days.”

The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War l to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. It reminds Americans of the sacrifices made by our veterans while protecting our freedoms.

Members of Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 62 will be selling poppies at various locations in the community May 24 through May 26. All proceeds from these sales will be going to help disabled and hospitalized veterans, and their families.

The American Legion Auxiliary has pledged to remind Americans each year that the men and women who have served and died for their country deserve to be remembered.

Rosas encourages all citizens, residents and visitors to wear a poppy to honor every service member who has died in the name of liberty, freedom and democracy while also showing their support for living veterans, service members and their families.
