Cow, calf deaths under investigation in Busti

BUSTI — Police are looking for information in an animal cruelty case after a cow and its newborn calf were found dead in a pasture earlier this month.

The black Angus cow was found shot to death May 8 on its owner’s property near Donelson Road in the town of Busti. The cow’s newborn calf was also found dead believed to be due to starvation, the Lakewood-Busti Police Department said in a press release Monday evening.

“It is believed that the cow was shot the weekend prior to May 8,” police said. “The owner of the cow heard gunshots coming from the area of the Five Corners in Busti near where the pasture is located on the weekend in question.”

Lakewood-Busti police said “multiple subjects” have been interviewed regarding the incident, though no charges have been filed as of this week.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police department, located at 20 W. Summit Ave., Lakewood, at 763-9563.
