The Tri-County Arts Council is pleased to announce the return of the artist studio tour, Routes to Art, in Cattaraugus County on the weekend of May 18-19 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Routes to Art is a self-guided open studio tour which takes place in artist studios and select locations throughout the county. To guide you on your travels, you can get a brochure at our office, 100 W. Main Street, Allegany, NY, or find a map on our website, myartscouncil.net.

Routes to Art showcases work in a wide range of media including painting, photography, jewelry, sculpture, fiber arts, wood carving, glass work, beading, pottery and more. Artists include John Balacki of From the Good Earth, Judson Brown, Jon Ann Capasso, Pauline Hoffmann of Wild Mountain Botanicals, Eric Holbein of New Albion Clayworks, Elliott Hutten of Hog-Shed Pottery, Mary Jacobs, Keith McKale of Fern Wood Art, Thomas Militello of Comet Creations, Penny Minner, Eileen Weishan, Michael Weishan, and Robin Zefers-Clark of Brookside Studio.

During Routes to Art weekend, the artists are available to answer questions and demonstrate how they create their work. “At the Tri-County Arts Council, we want to highlight the work of artists and support them by offering opportunities to share their work and creative spirit with the public. Strong community support for the arts is crucial to the vitality of our region, and the Arts Council wants to keep finding new ways to connect with the community and build that support” says Tina Hastings, executive director of Tri-County Arts. You may enter a studio and find a watercolor artist demonstrating a technique, watch a woodworker carving a bird, or see a ceramic artist working with clay. This is a chance to see more of an artist’s work than you would at a typical venue, plus you’ll have a chance to purchase works directly from the people that create them.

And while you make your way along the tour, stop by one or more of our generous restaurant sponsors. Restaurants include Ashford Junction Diner (Ellicottville), Dina’s Restaurant (Ellicottville), Ellicottville Brewing Co. (Ellicottville), Finnerty’s Tap Room (Ellicottville), and Marino’s Pizza (Salamanca).
