Update on improvements coming to Barker Common planned for June 1

Visit the Fredonia Farmer’s Market to learn about the restoration plans for historic of Barker Commons.

Social seating, restored fountains, period lighting and reclaimed cobblestone accents – these are just a few of the elements of the Village of Fredonia’s restoration of historic Barker Common. The design team returns to Barker Common 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 1 to update the public on the planned improvements. There will be displays and activities designed to showcase the project.

Barker Common is Chautauqua County’s first public park and anchors the Barker Common Historic District. The restoration project will enhance the park and help make the Common and downtown Fredonia a more attractive and usable place. Additional planned features include enhanced event space, electrical outlets and improved soil for healthier trees. Funding for the project was provided in part through a grant from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

The public is invited to join the consultant team in its tent on the Common to see the proposed designs, learn more about Fredonia’s fascinating history and the next steps in downtown revitalization for the village. Come early and stay for the busy day with the weekly Farmers Market; Opera House Bach BBQ, Bake Sale & Basket Auction fund-raiser; and the village-wide Attic and Cellar Days all taking place June 1.
