WESTFIELD — On Friday, at around 12:45 p.m., the Sheriffs Navigation division responded to Lake Erie in the town of Westfield for a report of a small sail boat in distress.

Upon arrival, deputies observed two subjects on the sail boat which appeared disabled. The Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team, and Westfield Fire Deptartment were dispatched to assist. Members of the Sheriffs Navigation Division and CCWET were able to make contact with the sail boat and assisted it into Barcelona Harbor.

The two individuals were evaluated by the Westfield Fire Deptartment and released. Further investigation found that the mast on the sail boat had broken, causing the boat to become disabled. Westfield Police Dept. and the Chautauqua County Emergency Services also assisted in the rescue.
