11 lost hikers located in Arkwright

ARKWRIGHT — 11 hikers, including nine ages 4 to 19, who were lost on trails were found after about 4 1/2 hours late Monday.

At about 9:30 p.m., the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call for the lost hikers. The hikers were thought to be in the area of a creek near Park Road the town.

Sheriff’s Road Patrol, Cassadaga Fire Department, New York State Forest Rangers, members of the C.A.S.T. team, Sheriff K9s Drake and Bentley responded to the area. A search of the area was conducted by Sheriff’s K9 and State Rangers. A Sheriff’s K9 did locate all 11 individuals. They were escorted out of a wooded area.

Two individuals sustained minor injuries. They were treated on scene by Cassadaga Fire and later transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital.
