New Horizons Band to resume sessions

The New Horizons Band will resume sessions on the SUNY Fredonia campus, meeting in Mason Hall according to the following schedule:

Aug. 28 – first Wednesday of lessons and band practice at Mason Hall, 3 to 4:45 p.m.

Aug. 30 – first Friday of lessons and band practice at Mason Hall, 3 to 5:30 p.m.

Sept. 4 – NHB lessons and band practice at Mason Hall, 3 to 4:45 p.m.

Sept. 6 – NHB lessons and band practice at Mason Hall, 3 – 5:30 p.m.

Lessons and practices will continue throughout the fall semester. The New Horizons Band will present a free concert at the Rockefeller Arts Center King Concert Hall on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Brocton, Portland FDs offer reflective signs

The Brocton and Portland fire departments are offering reflective house signs to all residents of their districts. Sign applications can be purchased for $15 at the Brocton village offices or the Portland town offices. Information on the application will be forwarded to the resident’s fire department, which will have a sign made and then install it. Please note, the signs will only be installed until Oct. 31, then installation shuts down for the winter until April 1.

Alzheimer’s group plans communication workshop Thursday

The Alzheimer’s Association Western New York Chapter will present a workshop “Effective Communication Strategies,” on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 5 p.m., at the Patterson Library, 40 S. Portage St., Westfield. The program covers verbal and non-verbal strategies for caregivers to more effectively understand and communicate with a person living with dementia.
