Denny’s Kids Day Monday in honor of Cookies for Kids Cancer Fund

Denny’s Kids Day will be held Monday from 4-7 p.m. in honor of the restaurant’s Cookies for Kids Cancer campaign. The campaign was reintroduced four years ago and has steadily been growing as time goes on.

The event, will feature local fire fighters and a K-9 unit, a petting zoo featuring alpacas and various games and activities.

The story of the foundation is that of New Jersey native, Liam Witt, who was diagnosed with cancer at two-years-old. His parents were shocked to learn of the lack of funding for pediatric cancer treatment at the time. They were determined to help raise funding and awareness, and with the help of 250 volunteers, his mother, Gretchen, baked and sold 96,000 cookies, raising more than $400,000 for research. The foundation has since ballooned into a charity that donates hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to pediatric cancer research.

Last year, Fredonia Denny’s raised over $9,000 and have set a goal of $10,000 for this year. The restaurant is featuring a basket raffle at a dollar a ticket for donated goods from local businesses such as Key Bank, Auto Zone, Vayu Home Center, Walmart and Pattons, just to name a few. Denny’s is also selling monster slime, magnets, necklaces, pins and pens at the hostess station to raise additional funds. A yard sale will round out this year’s campaign on Aug. 30. Kids Day is free and open to the public.
