Know Before U Go college prep seminar set for Sept. 21

The American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC) is sponsoring Know Before U Go, a free one-day session for American Indian and Alaska Native students from 9th-12th grade, parents and educators to learn about college preparation, scholarship opportunities and financial literacy. The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Jamestown Community College from 9 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. in the Hamilton Collegiate Center.

The free event, which includes breakfast snacks and lunch, is funded by a generous grant from Wells Fargo. AIGC is partnering and collaborating with area colleges, state agencies and local communities, including tribal communities, to highlight the value of higher education and to showcase resources and funding available to students before they enter a college or university.

Starting with the morning session, this event is filled with useful information, inspiring stories, funding opportunities and the chance for a lucky student to win a free laptop. For more information, visit www.aigcs.org/event/know-before-u-go-jamestowncc.

AIGC and AIGCS are the largest scholarship providers to American Indian and Alaska Native students. For nearly 50 years, we have empowered Native students from 500 tribes in all 50 states. AIGC funds undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees in any field at any accredited institution of choice at over 1,700 campuses across the United States.

AIGC students graduate at significantly higher rates than the national average. (The SPGSF program graduation rate is 95%; the GMS graduation rate is 68.3%; the NCES AI/AN graduation rate is 38.9%.) Scholarships range between $1,000 and $30,000, and many are renewable. To learn more, visit www.aigcs.org for a list of undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships.
