Squadron 69 Sons of the American Legion discuss August events

The Squadron 69 Sons of the American Legion committee met recently with 10 members present and three excused.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Larry Fiorella and accepted.

Commander Rod Dziduch thanked Doug McPherson and Dave Winchell for helping with the power washing of the building.

Plans were finalized for the family picnic that was held on Saturday, Aug. 10.

The meat and shrimp raffle was a huge success.

The finance officer’s report was read by Larry Fiorella and accepted. The Fiscal 2020 operating budget was reviewed and accepted.

First Vice Commander McPherson noted that the Fiscal 2019 membership exceeded 100%.

Second Vice Commander Winchell reported that tickets are coming this week for the cooler raffle. Members are asked to fill the cooler with donations.

It was announced that Dziduch and Fiorella would be attending the State Legion convention (in July).

Everyone needs to attend and march in the Farm Festival parade Sunday, Aug. 25.

The Legion featured displays and an award was planned at the Fredonia History Days.

An outside sign was passed by the village planning board with 3 to 2 in favor.

A special presentation was given by Tony Granata, letting members know that the group has a binder for all historical information and members can add to their sections as needed.

Jim Wright reported that he placed the order for the POA-MIA flag for the empty chair ceremonies.

A special meeting was held with the commander and four others to vote in a new son for fiscal 2019. Gary Butler was accepted into the SAL 59 family by unanimous vote.
