Festival of Grapes nears

SILVER CREEK — This year’s 52nd annual Festival of Grapes is set for Sept. 20-22 in Silver Creek. The Festival of Grapes committees are busy making plans and are looking forward to another wonderful celebration of the grape agriculture in our region.

Many traditional events are being planned.

The pentathlon for both girls and boys ages 7 and 8 will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Silver Creek High School’s track. There is no cost to enter. Registration begins at 5:45 p.m. and the competition begins at 6 p.m..

The grape dessert/jam contest will be held the morning of Saturday, Sept. 21 at 9:30 a.m. at Mt. Carmel church, 135 Central Avenue, Silver Creek. There will be adult categories of grape pie, grape dessert, and grape preserve/jam. There is also a kids’ grape creations category for those 12 and under. The amateur winemaking tasting contest will also be held that morning at the church.

Other events include: Delicious foods and craft fair in the park, rides and amusements in the downtown ballpark, live entertainment, and the presentation of the Grape Grower of the Year award.

On Friday, Sept. 20 the festival kicks off with the opening ceremony at 5:30 p.m. followed by the crowd favorite — grape stomping. Come cheer the stompers on as they see who can be the fastest to fill their bucket with grape juice!

The big Festival of Grapes parade will be on Sunday afternoon with many bands, floats, fire trucks, marchers, and excitement for all who gather.

It looks to be a “grape” year shaping up and we hope that YOU will participate! We are looking for attendees AND we are looking for volunteers. If you have an interest in being a part of the festival, please call either Deanna Borrello at 934-2410 or Carol Kuchera at 549-8239.

Please plan to be a part of the 52nd Annual Festival of Grapes. Look for more information to come and check us out on Facebook. See you at the purple water fountain!
