Rehearsals to begin for Trinity Masterworks Fall Concert

Do you remember singing in choral groups in high school and college and nothing since, other than in the shower or humming along with the radio? Well, now you have an opportunity to reconnect with your singing self. Become part of the ever growing Trinity Masterworks Choir, now in its fourth season.

Come this coming Sunday, Sept. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. for the first rehearsal for the fall concert presented by Trinity Masterworks Choir. The concert is set for Saturday, Nov. 2.

All of the rehearsals are held in the nave of Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Day St., Fredonia. Please enter through Garland Hall which is located at the back of the church building.

If you are a singer that has been longing to, once again, try singing in four or more parts please join us.

This group is composed of community members, local high school students and students from SUNY Fredonia.

All singers are welcome.

The concert in November will feature composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, “Dona Nobis Pacem.'” The choir will be joined by two soloists, Baritone, Daniel Ihasz and Soprano, Lucille Horn, as well as a small chamber orchestra.

“Dona Nobis Pacem” was written as the composer felt compelled to create this work as a plea for peace. It premiered on Oct. 2, 1936. With it, Williams refers to the horrors of recent wars and the growing fears of a new one. The text of the piece is made from parts of a traditional Mass, three poems of Walt Whitman, a political speech and sections of the Christian Bible. It concludes on a quiet optimistic note.

The choir is under the direction of Phillip McMullen, middle/high school choral director at Silver Creek schools, Director Trinity Episcopal Church Choir and he also maintains a private voice and piano studio. Mr McMullen felt compelled to create this group as a way to bring community singing back to a small town as so many communities no longer support such a group and they are greatly needed.

Come to rehearsals this and every Sunday through Oct. 27. There are also bi-weekly Thursday night rehearsals which many participants find most useful. The week leading up to the Nov. 2 concert will have additional rehearsals which will be announced closer to the event. A rehearsal schedule and music will be available this Sunday. See you there.
