More than 35 vendors and five presenters were part of the OBSERVER’s Wonderful World of Women event, which was held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

One of the presentations focused on how to tell if children are using drugs or vaping. Melanie Witkowski, executive director of Prevention Works, and Denise Zentz of the Dunkirk Police Department spoke about how web sites give teenagers information on how to hide alcohol and other related substances. Witkowski also spoke about the recent dangers associated with vaping as three deaths have already been linked to the habit.

Other presentations included a self-defense demonstration by Bill Matteson and the impact on human trafficking around the country and in our region. Detective Nancy Lombardo gave eye-opening information about how poverty can drive this type of crime in Erie and Chautauqua counties.

Forty-three prizes were given away to participants.

Major sponsors for this year’s event included the city of Dunkirk, Lake Shore Savings, Farrell Roofing and the Westfield YWCA.
