Author giving free presentation on vulnerable children

CELORON — On Nov. 4, Chautauqua County will welcome the return of Dr. Ira Chasnoff for a no-cost, community-based learning and planning experience from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel, 10 Dunham Ave. in Celoron.

Chasnoff, an award-winning author, researcher and lecturer, is president of NTI Upstream and a professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. He is one of the nation’s leading researchers in the field of child development and the effects of maternal alcohol and drug use on the newborn.

Chasnoff will focus his session on the biological and environmental factors that impact the ultimate development of substance-exposed children.

He will also emphasize how prenatal substance abuse prevention, enhanced learning, and behavior management early in life can help a community avoid the human and financial costs of prenatal substance exposure, and serious emotional and behavioral problems of early childhood.

At the conclusion of the session, a panel comprised of key stakeholders will provide information regarding the development of a comprehensive system of care for children ages 0-5 in our community.

The event is free and open to the public. To register, please visit https://thevulnerablechildandfamily.eventbrite.com or contact Nicole Kimball at 753-4117. RSVP is required by Friday, Oct. 25.
