Thirty years ago — 1989

The Brocton High School student newspaper, “The Brocton Review,” has been awarded second place in the best newspaper category at the 1989 Empire State School Press Association competition. This places the publication in the top three statewide for schools with enrollments under 1,000.

Forty years ago — 1979

The Hose Co. No. 4 Murraymen are preparing for another season. After winning the state championship in Rochester this past summer, the state champs will have to travel to Manhattan next year to defend their title. Along with the Manhattan trip, the Murraymen also will be traveling to Lake Placid and the Catskill Mountain area.

Fifty years ago — 1969

Ronald M. Bifaro was recently selected as the “Outstanding Airman” of the 54th Aerospace Reconnaissance Technical Wing at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Bifaro of Lake Road, Silver Creek.
