Evans approves hiring of labor consultant

ANGOLA — a resolution to hire a Labor Relations Consultant became a heated topic of discussion at the Evans Town Board meeting earlier this month before it was approved.

The resolution, which came before the board to vote on, drew criticism from board member Michael Schraft. He questioned the need for such a position and the money that would be paid out for the position for such a lengthy time frame.

The position is to assist the Town Board with labor issues in regard to people who work for the town and problems with employment.

Supervisor Mary Hosler stated there were currently at least 12 such issues the town had with its employees. Without filling the Labor Relations Consultant position, it would cost the town more in labor litigation in court and legal costs.

Schraft asked for the resolution to be tabled, but did not receive further support. Hosler and new board member Thomas George voted for the resolution, which passed 2-1.
