County declares state of emergency; school closings recommended
MAYVILLE — Chautauqua County Executive Paul M. Wendel Jr. has declared a state of emergency for Chautauqua County due to the coronavirus.
Wendel spoke at a county press conference to update residents on the virus that is impacting the globe. During the conference, Christine Schuyler, commissioner of Health and Human Services said four residents here have been tested. Three tests have come back negative and another result has not yet come in.
She also called on county school districts to close on Wednesday, but leaving the final decision up to each individual district.
Sheriff James Quattrone asked that residents remain respectful of each other when they do venture out. He also said visitation at the county jail will be suspended.
