Ripley’s new Girl Scout troop donates cookies to military personnel

Submitted Photo Girl Scouts from Ripley’s Troop No. 20153 sold 63 boxes of cookies that will be sent to military personnel serving overseas. Pictured are Gabriellah, Addison, Nelly, Myla and Kayliann, missing from photo is Ellie.

“I am so proud of our girls for their hard work selling these cookies, and for their customers who donated boxes to service members,” said Lonikay Fisher, leader of Girl Scout Troop No. 20153.

The newly formed Brownie troop in Ripley has been together for only two months, yet they have the distinction of being responsible for more than half of their service unit’s Girl Scout cookie donations to military personnel this cookie season.

The Twin Lakes Service Unit, which consists of scouts from three local school districts, donated 119 boxes of cookies to active duty military personnel through the Blue Star Mothers Lake Erie 4 chapter.

Brownie Troop No. 20153, six girls led by Lonikay Fisher and Megan Orton, sold 63 of those boxes for the troops. “This is a community of people who help each other,” said Fisher. “They obviously wanted to support the troops who help us all. And our girls are amazing. They’ve worked super hard to show that support.”

The girls, Gabriellah, Kayliann, Nelly, Ellie, Myla, and top seller Addison, had their first meeting in January and are already busy earning their First Aid badges and preparing for World Thinking Day.

The Blue Star Mothers Lake Erie 4 Chapter send care packages to soldiers serving overseas multiple times each year. Thanks to these Ripley scouts, they will be able to include Girl Scout cookies among the sweet treats for military personnel.
