COVID-19 surge continues in region

Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties are seeing a surge in new COVID cases.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday, the two counties reported 45 cases — 29 from Cattaraugus and 19 from Chautauqua.

Jamestown’s ZIP code may currently hold the most COVID-19 cases in Chautauqua County with 294, but the Dunkirk-Fredonia regions are seeing a definite uptick in recent numbers provided by the Health Department. According to Wednesday’s report, the county has now exceeded 1,000 cases as an additional 19 cases of COVID-19 were documented and 132 active cases that continue to recover. Of the newest infections, seven are in Fredonia; six are in Dunkirk; five are in Jamestown and one in Sinclairville.

Chautauqua County officials say the cluster of cases tied to a private event in the north county has reaced 17 with seven active and 10 recovered. Twenty-one are hospitalized as of Sunday, down one from the previous day.

Six active cases are reported among employees tied to Tanglewood Manor with 38 active cases among residents. Eighteen employees and 52 residents associated with this outbreak have recovered.

To date, the department reports 861 recovered cases; 13 deaths; and 1,006 total confirmed cases.

In Cattaraugus County, there have been a total of 436 cases with 88 active and 323 recoveries. There has also been 18 deaths.
