Fredonia fire chief announces retirement

Fredonia Village Board members will need to find a new fire chief.

At the special meeting held Friday evening via Zoom and broadcast on Fredonia Public Access, current Chief Ryan Walker submitted his resignation. His final day on the job will be Sunday, April 4.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve our community … to do a job that I love every day,” Walker said in a letter to Mayor Doug Essek and the trustees.

Walker, who will retire, was the first paid fire chief in the village as he was installed in October 2017. The annual salary for the fire chief position at that time began at $85,000.
