Silver Creek to aid Hideaway project

SILVER CREEK — The reconstruction of Hideaway Bay continues to see progress being made. Earlier this week, Carol Rasumussen, the Business Development Manager of the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Company, spoke at the Village Board’s public hearing to encourage the board to seek a grant to help fund the project.

“The Community Development Block Grant provides funds to municipalities to ensure safe, decent, and affordable housing, while assisting business activities to create and maintain employment opportunities,” Rasmussen said. “It only funds projects or activities where at least 51 percent of participants are low to moderate income persons.”

Rasmussen asked the Village Board to apply for the grant, which would reward nearly $450,000, and would provide loans for Adventure Sports Development, LLC to re-develop the Hideaway Bay Property.

“Adventure Sports Development, LLC is expected to create 30 full-time equivalent jobs,” Rasmussen said. “A majority of which will be made available to low and moderate income individuals.”

Rasmussen went on to answer questions from the public during the hearing, and said that, according to the plan from Adventures Sports Development, the public will maintain access to the waterfront. There will be activities like kayaking, biking, bird watching, and many others that will be made available to the public, including an ADA accessible walking area around the perimeter. Additionally, a paddle boat launch will be installed on Walnut Creek that will also be open to the public.

The resolution to apply for the grant was unanimously approved by the Silver Creek Village Board. A second public hearing will be held, should the grant be awarded.
