Bail was set at $2.5 million cash for a Ripley man who, already awaiting trial on multiple kidnapping charges from last year, was recently jailed for incidents that reportedly involved weapons.

Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt on Friday went before County Court Judge David Foley to make a bail revocation motion regarding 22-year-old Isiah T. Fuentes. Foley reset bail at $2.5 million cash, or $5 million real property, Schmidt said in a statement.

Fuentes is currently in Chautauqua County Jail. He was indicted last year on charges of first-degree kidnapping — intent to cause physical injury; first-degree kidnapping — intent to terrorize; attempted assault with intent to cause serious physical injury; second-degree assault with intent to cause injury with a weapon; and second-degree strangulation.

A county court clerk on Friday said there is a pre-trial conference scheduled for Aug. 16; Fuentes is currently on the Aug. 30 trial calendar, however, the clerk noted that there are two other matters ahead of his case, so the trial may be pushed back.

The indictment is the result of an investigation that began as a well-being check in July 2020. A victim, reported to be injured, was located inside a Ripley residence along with Fuentes.

As the investigation into the incident continued, it was learned that the Ripley man had unlawfully entered the victim’s home and held the victim against their will for several days. During that time Fuentes also allegedly assaulted the victim numerous times, which included beating, burning, choking and cutting the victim.

The bail reset was the result of new charges filed against Fuentes this month. Sheriff’s deputies responded Monday to a report of a person with a weapon. Fuentes was located a short time later at an address that he had reportedly entered and remained unlawfully.

Fuentes is facing second-degree criminal trespass and second-degree aggravated harassment charges as a result of the incident. He was additionally charged, following further investigation, with driving while intoxicated, DWI per se, unregistered motor vehicle, unlicensed operator, no insurance, uninspected motor vehicle and improper plates.

On July 6, deputies reported Fuentes displayed what appeared to be handgun, then put the gun to the head of another person and threatened to kill then. The Ripley man was charged with second-degree menacing in that incident.
