Luca S. Calannni Foundation announces $14,000 in grants

The Luca S. Calanni Foundation (Live Like Luca) is pleased to announce the approval of grants to local organizations this month in excess of $14,000.

“We are so pleased that so much good has come from this tragedy” said Ashley Calanni, Lucas’s mother. “We smile at the fact that many children will be able to enjoy experiences this summer that would not have been possible without this foundation”.

Grants were made to Hilbert College Basketball Camp, Catching Dreams Charters, St. Francis High School Basketball Camp, The WNY Section PGA, The First Tee of WNY, Northern Chautauqua Catholic School Basketball Camp, and Lakeview Athletics Soccer. These grants will fund sports and camp experiences this summer and fall for over 75 children in the WNY region.

“The Calanni family would like to thank the many individuals and businesses that have helped keep Luca’s memory alive and made the Luca S. Calanni Foundation possible” said Roger Calanni, Luca’s father.

Luca Calanni passed on Jan. 11 , 2020, from flu related complications at the age of 11. In less than one year, the Luca S. Calanni Foundation has made grants exceeding $46,000 benefitting well over 250 local children through various local youth and sports oriented non-profit organizations in Erie and Chautauqua counties.

Applications for third-quarter 2021 grant requests are due no later than Monday, Aug. 16.

The Luca S. Calanni Foundation celebrates the life and legacy of Luca Calanni by following his example of kindness and caring. Our mission is to help all children experience the joys of participating in sports, camps, the arts and other activities that made Luca’s light shine bright.
