Gowanda VFW plans barbecue Thursday

GOWANDA — The Gowanda VFW Post 5007, 20 Sandhill Road, will hold a drive-through chicken barbecue on Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. The event does not include ribs this time. The cost is $16 per person.

Cemetery board meets June 7

The next monthly meeting of the Willowbrook Park Cemetery board of directors will be on Tuesday, June 7 at 10 a.m. in the cemetery chapel. The board is seeking new members as well as grounds maintenance personnel.

Board members do not have to own a plot in the cemetery or have a title to a niche in the columbarium to be on the board. Anyone interested should attend this meeting. At some point, the board will decide what to do with the 12 acres of land the cemetery owns but is not using.

Yappy Hour planned for Saturday

Captain Ale will be hosting a Yappy Hour event in honor of National Rescue Dog Day. National Rescue Dog Day was founded in 2018 to bring awareness to the countless number of amazing dogs in shelters around the country who deserve a second chance at a forever home.

Captain Ale has partnered with The Lakeshore Humane Society, Sadie’s Safe Harbor Canine Rescue and Tito’s Handmade Vodka for this event. The Yappy Hour will take place at Captain Ale at 19 Lakeshore Drive East, Dunkirk from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday. During the event there will be a 50-50 raffle, basket raffle, prizes and giveaways and music by DJ KT Stylez. Drink specials featuring Tito’s Vodka will be offered during Yappy Hour.

Each organization will be present with information on available pets for adoption and pet assistance programs. A bin will be available for donations of pet supplies such as blankets, food, collars, leashes, laundry soap and pet toys.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to each organization by Captain Ale and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.
