Hanover beach opening for weekend

HANOVER — The town beach will be open beginning Saturday and throughout the Memorial Day weekend, but will close again during the week until June 25, where it will then be open for the season.

Town Councilman Ed Schintzius said that the closing date is a little in question due to the status of some of the life guards.

“We’ll have the beach open full time from the 25th until Labor Day,” he said. “We might be closing a little bit early. We’re trying to work out the number of kids going back to college. We do have an abundance of life guards, so we should be in good shape.”

Schintzius also had a different proposal for the beach this year, one which would outlaw smoking and tobacco products of any kind on the beach. This includes cigarettes, marijuana, and vaping, as it still produces smoke vapor.”

The slide will also be installed sometime after Memorial Day, with town Highway Superintendent Peter Pelletter saying they will look for a time to fit it in before the beach is open full time.

The next meeting of the Hanover Town Board will be on Monday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m.
