The inscription on Dunkirk’s Memorial Park sign was finally changed last week. The city’s Common Council voted in December to remove the name of Mayor Wilfred Rosas and replace it with a dedication to veterans killed in action. The inscription could not be properly changed in cold or inconsistent weather, demanding three days or so of warm temperatures. A vandal didn’t want to wait, defacing Rosas’ name last month, but city employees quickly removed the spray paint. Now, the inscription is permanently and professionally altered, in time for Memorial Day.
