Water improvements continue in city

Submitted Photo

Pictured are the three new 20-inch isolation valves installed on the city of Dunkirk’s west arterial water mains at Brigham Road with West Second Street. These three new-technology direct-burial butterfly valves allow eight modes of operation and isolation at the T junction. The city Department of Public Works now has a total of seven new largest-size isolation valves along the arterial in and near Route 5. Additionally, the city added similar 20-inch valve clusters on Roberts Road near Talcott and Benton, and on Brigham Road near Willow, in recent years. Mayor Wilfred Rosas and the Common Council have championed these improvements with American Rescue Plan Act and New York Environmental Facilities Corporation funding, and DPW has about two more valves to install this construction season.
