Quilts of Valor distributed

This spring, Veterans 4 Christ welcomed 19 veterans to their monthly brunch. After a delicious homemade brunch, these 19 veterans were each presented in a special ceremony with a Quilt of Valor. Veterans 4 Christ is a local non-profit organization that provides camaraderie with other veterans. The group meets monthly on the second and fourth Thursdays at 9 W. Main St., Brocton and then the third Saturday for a free delicious brunch at Tri-Church Parish, Brocton. Please contact Wes Tessey at (716) 640-9883 for further information. The Quilts of Valor Foundation began in 2003 with a dream, literally a dream. Founder Catherine Roberts’ son Nat was deployed in Iraq. She said: “The dream was as vivid as real life. I saw a young man sitting on the side of his bed in the middle of the night, hunched over. The permeating feeling was one of utter despair. I could see his war demons clustered around, dragging him down into an emotional gutter. Then, as if viewing a movie, I saw him in the next scene wrapped in a quilt. His whole demeanor changed from one of despair to one of hope and well-being. The quilt had made this dramatic change. The message of my dream was: Quilts = Healing.” There is a local group of seamstresses that donate quilts for this great honor. The state coordinator is Barbara Frost. If you would like to contact her, the information is on the website. Congratulations to these 19 veterans and all the other veterans who received a Quilt of Valor!
