Remembering Pearl Harbor

VFW Post 6472, American Legion Post 148 Silver Creek & Amvets Post 6472 held a Wreath-Laying Ceremony to honor the Americans that lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.There was a short speech and prayer by former town supervisor Todd Johnson with the tossing of a wreath into Lake Erie in remembrance and respect for the more than 2,400 Americans who perished in the attack. Over the years the local VFW, American Legion & Amvets have paid their respects to the lives lost at Pearl Harbor with a joint ceremony. Services were held at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Sunset Bay Marina. Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is held annually on Dec. 7 commemorating the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii by the Japanese Navy pushing the United States into World War II. In the attack, 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 were injured. Four U.S. battleships were sunk and four others were damaged. In addition, three cruisers, three destroyers were damaged while 188 aircraft were destroyed with 159 others damaged.
