Santa visits during Cassadaga festival

CASSADAGA — Saturday was the Cassadaga Light Up Festival. Santa took time out of his busy schedule to fly his reindeer and sleigh to Cassadaga.
He stopped at the Cassadaga Firehall, and the generous Cassadaga Volunteer Firemen wanted to give his reindeer a rest from the long journey, so the Cassadaga Fire Department Engine 102 was used to bring Santa to the Village Park at the corner of Maple Avenue and route 60. The day had plenty of snow and the outside temperature was 26 degrees. Santa spent his time talking with the children about Christmas.
With two of his helpers, Santa talked to the children and gave each one a gift. Santa wants to thank the Cassadaga Volunteer Firemen for their help with his arrival. Santa saw on his way a sign which read “Free Snow.”
The Cassadaga Fire Auxiliary served hot chocolate and hot coffee. There were two fire pits so that those attending could warm themselves. Inside the Cassadaga Branch Library building were cookie treats for all, and books and coloring books for the children.
Nearby at the Cassadaga Park Methodist Church was a live nativity set. Christmas lights were on when it was dark, with caroling. Games for children were available, and Santa took part in a hockey game on ice.

Santa arrived at the Village Park in Cassadaga on the Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department Engine 102 to talk about Christmas with the children, and he was assisted by two helpers.
Inside the Church at 5:30 was a local talent show. Some of the many participants included Greg Bacon singing Frosty the Snowman, Andrew Pingitore, Melissa Wilson, Sharon Frudd, Cindy Flaherty, Nathan Pawnall, Harry Loomis, Mark Wilson, Katie Pattison, Kennedy Pattison, and the entire audience singing. A very fine performance enjoyed by all.
The group known as the Citizens for a Better Cassadaga were responsible for the organization of the festival known as “Light Up Cassadaga.” All the events were free, courtesy of the Citizens for a Better Cassadaga, Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department, Cassadaga Fire Auxiliary, Cassadaga Branch Library, the Park Church, and the Village of Cassadaga. There are many memories of the festival.
