Fredonia superintendent search in negotiations phase

The Fredonia Central School District is falling a bit behind schedule when it comes to the search for a new superintendent.

During a recent board of education meeting, Middle School Principal Andrew Ludwig asked where the process stood. Board President Michael Bobseine offered a brief reply by saying negotiations are taking place.

Officials had originally hoped to publicly name the new superintendent by June 14, though that date has come and gone.

Retired Amherst School superintendent Dr. Laura Pless took over as the interim leader of the district on April 1.

Pless worked at Fredonia for almost 15 years; she was a teacher and began her administrative career there.

During the recent meeting, the board unanimously voted to extend Pless’ appointment through Aug. 15, or until such time as a new person is named and that person assumes the superintendent position. The original agreement with Pless lasted until approximately July 1.

Former superintendent Paul DiFonzo retired on March 31.

Also during the meeting, Mike Reynolds and Jim Stenger were added as members of the parents stakeholder group for the superintendent interview process.
