Senior housing possible for old Silver Creek High School building

County Executive George Borrello, along with Silver Creek Mayor Jeffrey Hornburg and Trustee Warren Kelly toured the old Silver Creek High School building earlier this week.

Borrello commented on his Facebook page about the experience: “Region 9 Housing Corp, out of New Jersey is an not-for-profit organization that is part of the United Auto Workers Union (UAW). They are potentially interested in turning the old school into much-needed senior housing.

“Together with Region 9, we have hired an engineering firm to take the first step to confirm that the building can still be rehabbed. If so, then we will move to the next steps. Today we met with that engineering firm to evaluate the structure.

“There have been several months worth of meetings and help from people like Senator (Cathy) Young, Assemblyman (Andy) Goodell and Congressman (Tom) Reed, as well as the local town and village officials who have worked so hard to make today’s evaluation a reality. There is much more work to be done, even if we get over today’s hurdle. But we are hopeful!”
