Train hits unoccupied vehicle

RIPLEY — No injuries were sustained after a train rammed into an unoccupied vehicle on the tracks in Ripley on Sunday morning.

Chautauqua County sheriffs deputies and emergency responders were dispatched to a train versus car accident just after 4 a.m. in the town of Ripley. Sheriffs say the accident occurred on the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks at the Station Road crossing in the town.

Sheriffs say the vehicle appeared to have been unoccupied when the train hit the vehicle. Sheriffs and the Westfield Police Department assisted at the scene along with the Ripley and Westfield fire departments.

An investigation is continuing into the incident.
