Gowanda students get into the spirit for class pride

Homecoming time

The senior class depicted “Spongebob Squarepants” as the theme of their float. as the theme for their float as part of Homecoming weekend.

GOWANDA — Fall Fest in Gowanda kicked off Thursday with the Gowanda High School Homecoming Parade. All four classes represented with colorful and animated floats featuring underwater themes in the form of various films and television.

The class of 2022 had an intense display with their theme of “Shark Tale” followed by 2021’s complex take on the classic Disney film “The Little Mermaid.” Smith of course had a great time as the MC of the event, recognizing each of the classes as well as floats for several other teams and groups as they marched on through.

Next, the junior class of 2020 went back to 1975 and featured “Jaws” complete with theme music. Lastly, the senior class of 2019 brought it home with their creative display of the Nickleodeon favorite “Spongebob Squarepants,” enticing Mayor David Smith to sing the memorable theme

The Bills Drum Corps was scheduled to lead the parade, but backed out at the last minute, leaving the school without a marching band. However, it did not dampen the spirit, as candy was tossed into the crowd, sirens blared from fire engines and cheerleaders shouted as the parade reached a crescendo. Despite the minor set back, the students and the community had fun.

Tonight, the Gowanda Panthers will take on the Maple Grove Red Dragons on Hillis Field at 7 p.m.
