Two from Westfield charged in July train-car crash

RIPLEY — Two Westfield individuals have been charged in a July incident when a train crashed into an unoccupied car.

The investigation was conducted by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and The Westfield Police Department. Through the investigation it was found that Christopher Weston, 25, of Jefferson Street and a 16-year-old youth poured gasoline inside a vehicle belonging to Weston and then placed the vehicle on the train tracks on around 4:30 a.m. July 22. This was done with the intent that a train would strike the vehicle and then set the vehicle on fire.

Both Weston and the teen were arrested and appeared in Ripley town court. Weston was charged with unlawful interference with a railroad train and third-degree attempted arson and sent to the Chautauqua County Jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 property bail. The 16-year-old was charged with unlawful interference with a railroad train and released under supervision.
