SOUTH DAYTON — A Pine Valley senior’s artwork will hang in a place of honor in the nation’s capital.

Pine Valley High School senior, David Shull, was selected as one of four finalists in the 2019 Congressional High School Art Competition for his piece entitled “Supplies.” His artwork, along with the other finalists’ work, will be on display in Rep. Tom Reed’s office in Washington, D.C., for one year.

“It’s a big honor,” Shull said. “It feels really good knowing that my art is on display in our nation’s capital.”

Every year, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage budding talent. One student per school is able to submit a piece to their representative’s office, where a panel of other local artists then select the winners.

David is an AP Art student at Pine Valley. His work stood out the most to teacher Caitlin Sengbusch, which is why she selected his piece for the competition. She said, “I am so proud that one of our students artwork will be there for a year to represent our school!”

Pictured is David Shull’s artwork, called “Supplies” that is in Washington, D.C.

The following students from the 23rd Congressional District also placed in the competition: winner, Ashlyn Schuman from Allegany-Limestone High School, runner-up, Jessica Ritchie from Cattaraugus-Little Valley High School. Shull was a finalist with three other students.
