Village fountain nears completion

SILVER CREEK — One of the village’s reconstruction projects looks to be nearing the final steps this week, as Mayor Jeffrey Hornburg and the board unanimously approved the purchase order for Colley’s Pools & Spas to install AquaBright lining over the existing surface of the village fountain at a cost of $9,485.

Trustee Warren Kelly spoke on the latest regarding the fountain during his comments to the village. “With the village fountain,” Kelly began, “Pagano Construction is going to be cutting the concrete base in so we can get a trench in there for the electrical, water and drain lines.”

In addition to the heavy construction work, Kelly further noted that Pagano was also in charge of the park’s new electric system as well. “Pagano Electrical will be doing the new electrical service panel to the park,” Kelly stated. “That handles all the lighting and the power for the fountain.”

The time frame for the project appears tight, but promises prompt results following the Memorial Day weekend. “Hopefully,” Kelly concluded. “We’ll get it done in four or five days.”

In other news, three new memberships to village fire departments were approved by the board. Robert Sheldon was accepted as a member of the Silver Creek Hook & Ladder Company, Austin Wood was accepted as a junior firefighter with the Silver Creek Fire Department and Donald Lindow was accepted as a member of the Silver Creek Huntley Hose Company.

Trustee Stephen Romanik commented on the new members, and noted that two additions were direct results of the RecruitNY program that took place at fire departments across New York state earlier this month. “It’s nice to see that we got three people in the community to step up and join the fire department,” Romanik commented.

Trustee John Burt also noted, “They’re starting to look into changing by-laws, there’s people in the past that have wanted to join and wanted to be an EMT, but the rules have always said you have to be a member of the fire department first.”

The board also awarded the bid for village waste and recycling collection and disposal to Bestway Container Service, LLC for a five-year period starting July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2024. The bid was quoted at $99,649 by Village Clerk Tom Postle.
